What is mission?
We believe that God has spoken to the world through the life of Jesus Christ, and that every Christian has a role to play in God’s mission. Around the world, Christians and Christian churches try to make themselves signposts which point to the reality of God’s existence and the relevance of his words to people of every language, race and nation. “Missionaries” was the term used to describe people who often traveled long distances to put up new signposts in places where there had been no Christians and no churches. And in a world where it is even more obvious that people who live hundreds or thousands of miles from us are our neighbours, there is still a need for those who believe in Jesus, God’s son, not only to tell people about Him, but to put into practice his teaching on care for the poor, healing for the sick, justice for the oppressed and reconciliation for the divided.
What do we do? We are preparing to work with Christians and churches in Spain. When the death of Francisco Franco in 1977 allowed Spaniards greater freedom from the social and political pressure to practice Roman Catholicism, many people turned their backs on the church. Today, the average Spaniard is skeptical of the integrity of Catholic Church and its doctrines, and has never met an Evangelical or Protestant Christian. But God’s message is still relevant to them, and Spanish Christians and Spanish Churches want to make sure that His message gets through.
When do we start? We began training to work overseas in September 2006 after leaving our jobs and our home in Southampton.
July 2008 - we complete our course at All Nations Christian College
September 2008 - we begin a 10 week orientation course at the HQ of WEC International in Buckinghamshire.
January/February 2009 - we move to Spain and begin language study.
